PICASA

PICASA is a very basic photo editing, it's accessible, basic and free are very applicable to students, but for photo editing and restoration quality, I would prefer photoshop much better.

Technology in the Classroom

To start with, my Major is Bachelor in 2D Fine Art, and am taking teaching License for secondary school. If I gain my teaching license, I would most likely teach art at secondary school. There are many methods use in doing art, such as painting, water color, sculpture, ceramic, printmaking, photography, graphic designs, animations, etc.

Art is a hands on skill and a studio base classroom. I would most likely teach art in a traditional art studio classroom settings, but if necessary, I would use technology in my short lecture of introducing art methods, designs concepts , art histories/movements or visual examples, by using the traditional power point slides or a more advance web 2.0 online tools such as video sharing, podcasts, blogs etc, when presenting 'how to' for various art methods to my classroom. Besides that, when introducing graphic design (Adobe softwares such as Photoshop, Ilustrator etc) as an art methods to my class, I would most likely use a pc/Mac computers and its many supporting softwares for my classroom.

At BYUH, I've learn that technology are widely use as an alternative art methods such as animation, graphic design (photoshop, ilustrator etc as tools) etc. Through my beginning and intermediate design class, I was exposed to art theories such as golden section in art, the rule of third, art designs, art elements etc through various technology, my teacher uses videos and pictures to show these concepts. The most intriguing one, is when we learned about the third rule concept that are use in the filming industry. Our teacher showed us clips from the pirates of the Caribbean movie with a 3x3 grid on it, and it shows that Captain Jack Sparrow are placed at the point of interest of the rule of third. Furthermore, in my Beginning photography class, I learned photo editing using photoshop and it is use vastly in today's modern digital photography. Our teacher even stated that it is the modern digital darkroom of digital photography.

Besides that, for my IDD (instructional design development) classes, we again use technology in introducing and instructing something, and in my assign work I chose "how to teach Hula". For the projects, we used, photoshops and ilustrator to do web site layout, posters, and brochures, we also use imovie, wikis, blogs and podcasts, to put together the videos of instructions, class group management, see others works and give comments to each other. Those classes are very much helpful and informative.

From taking EDU 305, I hope that I can learn more on how to use technology in my teaching career in art. Like my other technology base classes, I also hope that I can learn something new in technology and hopefully utilizes it in any circumstances in the future.
